The last couple of days, including today the weather has been amazing. We taught outside when we didn’t need the blackboard or anything else. It was amazing after a month of rain, hail and storm. Ilse was not feeling well today, so she didn’t come along to teach at the school. In the afternoon we prepared the lessons for Sunday and Monday together. Ilse did work in the afternoon but needed rest in the morning. Later in the afternoon we went shopping with the children. The secretary of the board wanted to buy new pairs of trousers and shoes for the children and invited us to join them. It is an entire operation to buy shoes and pairs of trousers for 17 children. The children had to be divided in three groups to pick out shoes. The rest could walk around with an adult in the store. The groups switched turns when the children found the shoes they wanted. After this we went shopping for pairs of trousers. The store wasn’t that big, so with a lot of children and staff in the building, it looked crowded. We were done quite soon, approximately two hours for 17 pairs of shoes and 17 pairs of trousers. After this we drank some soda at a terrace. All of the children went in the bus and they were exhausted, most of them were asleep during the ride home. Lindi helped some children with homework and Ilse played outside with some other children. Quite strange, the children got assignments about a song cockles and mussels, in response to a lesson about this song and the child didn’t understand at all what the song was about, the difficult words weren’t explained and the story that the song represented wasn’t told either.

Luckily Ilse was feeling better today. We could teach as a team again! We gave lessons in the primary school in the morning, this went quite well. We taught about animals, movements and body parts in response to the from head to toe story (Eric Carle). In grade 0 & 2 we taught about body parts. We let the children draw a monster. We threw dices: one with numbers and another one with body parts. With throwing the dices we created a description of a monster. The monster had 3 heads, 6 eyes, 5 ears, one leg, 4 arms and 6 hands. The children drew this monster. It was beautiful to see the children being so involved in the activity and we could see they understood the assignment by looking at their drawings. In the highest grades we also taught about body parts, but we did this with games (go fish, Pictionary) and we left the monster part out.
