Yesterday we gave taught the children. We sang the ‘From head to toe’ song (Eric Carle). The children already know it by heart! Feels good to see that . We also played the games kaboom and memory with them. With level 2 we played a guess who game with our board games we made ourselves. We also played a guess who game with the children of the group and we played a dialogue. The children seemed to really enjoy playing the dialogue, great to see! With level 3 we practised reading comprehension and we had a guided conversation with them. The children had to have a conversation about jobs. They had conversation cards to make sure the conversation had enough content about jobs. We also did a drama activity. We made tableaus vivant (living statues) with different kinds of emotions, together with the children. After that we made an emotionbus. The children pretended to sit in a bus. Every time a new passenger entered the bus with a different emotion, the entire bus had to take over the emotion of the new passenger. After this we played two other games. Guess who and conductor. With guess who, one child had to be blindfolded. He or she had to guess who was in front of them by feeling their faces. With the conductor the children had to stand in a circle and one child had to leave. One of the children was the conductor. He or she made movements, the rest of the children had to imitate the movements. The child that left had to guess who the conductor was. A very successful day!
Today we had a meeting with the teachers of the primary school in Cornatel, where we are going to teach 5 days a week, starting tomorrow. The other two days we don’t have to get bored either, on those days we are going to teach at the orphanage. There are three classes. Every class has a few different groups. The classrooms are small and they don’t have a lot of materials to work with. We will have to get used to not having a digital board. There is just a blackboard in the school. Our first impression is positive, we are looking forward to start teaching here! After the meeting we started top prepare lessons for tomorrow and Friday. We made lesson forms and we crafted the rest of the day to make our own guess who board games, quartet, scavenger hunt, find someone who and things to visualise a story and song.
